One would be hardpressed to find someone with whom I have less in common than Rachel Maddow. She’s a liberal’s liberal. I’m firmly on the right side of the equation in more ways than one. She’s an atheist spitting hatred against God whenever possible. I’m the property of Jesus. She’s a homosexual who never misses a chance to shove her sexual preference in everyone’s face. I’m quite straight and even more convinced since no one in the public eye has ever demonstrated the least little interest in my love life why should I have any interest in theirs. She has a nationally syndicated radio show and cable news network program. I… don’t. Not that I’d mind, but I’m quite happy here among friends. No, not a whole lot of mutual anything between Ms. Maddow and I. Other than the fact we both like girls. (*rimshot*)
This leads to the question of why bring Ms. Maddow up at all. I don’t watch her show on MSNBC or listen to her on Air America. I’ve got vastly more important things to do than bash someone from the wrong side of the political/social/whatever fence, and since as a believer I don’t have the luxury of demonizing an opponent — even one who doesn’t believe in demons — I’m more than inclined to let Ms. Maddow stew in her own juices over whatever she chooses to be outraged about as I choose to the best of my ability stumbling along the narrow path.
The reason she crossed my mind this morning was an article I ran across mentioning an item in a recent Newsweek puff piece about Ms. Maddow. When you’re reading what is supposed to be an objective news magazine but the story therein is so laden with worship the veriest PR hack would be embarrassed to use it there’s a problem. And the MSM wonders why its credibility is questioned. But I digress. Anyway, the article mentions in the section designated “let’s make sure we put something in here to garner sympathy for the one we proclaim a goddess among mere mortals” that Ms. Maddow has suffered from cyclical depression since childhood. Being one who routinely battles with the depression monster myself I can relate, although it’s well nigh impossible for me to resist commenting that Ms. Maddow suffering from cyclical depression may explain why she so completely signed on to Gloria Steinman’s dictum that a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle. Bicycle, cyclical… oh, never mind.
Laying aside the snide, while the chances of Ms. Maddow and I ever crossing paths, which should it ever take place would most likely result in our crossing swords, is extremely remote — what, you think she faithfully (no offense, Ms. Maddow) reads GAC? — there is the obligation as a believer to extend the open hand no matter how high the odds it will be smacked aside. There is an understanding based on knowing between Ms. Maddow and I, a common bond forged through the presence of a common foe. I have zero expectation of ever knowing or so much as impersonally encountering Ms. Maddow in person. But the extended hand is genuine and the proclamation of Christ’s love is real. No one is outside of His concern. No one is unreachable. No one is beyond salvation. No one is unworthy of Jesus’ love.
Not even hyperliberal lesbian atheist talk show hosts.

How exactly is Rachel shoving her sexual orientation in anyone’s face? I have watched her show everyday since it started on September 8th and she has only once mentioned her girlfriend and has never made any other comments regarding her sexuality. Is it simply because she has short hair that you assume she is “shoving it in your face?” And, if you don’t even watch her show, how would you know whether or not she never missed an opportunity to do so?
Also, she has never explicitly stated her religious beliefs or lack of beliefs but, from what I, an atheist, have observed, she seems to be a theist at the very least. I sincerely doubt she is an atheist. She might not view God in the same way you do, but I certainly think she believes.
I grew up going to a Southern Baptist church every Sunday, and I recall something in the Bible about not lying. You should find that verse and read it.
Right after you, m’dear.
Your characterization of Maddow as someone who spits “hatred against God whenever possible” and who “never misses a chance to shove her sexual preference in everyone’s face” is absolutely false. I should know because, unlike you, I listen to her radio show, and I watch her TV show.
I don’t tell you all my problems, do I?
You admit the following: “I don’t watch her show on MSNBC or listen to her on Air America.” If that is true, where do you get off attacking her? Why should anyone assign any credibility to your absurd allegations when you’ve admitted that you have no basis for them?
Um… I can read? Transcripts of all her MSNBC shows are readily available online.
You have spewed hatred and lies. How do you think Jesus would feel about that?
Hmm. So Maddow’s actually a conservative Christ-loving heterosexual? If not, can’t say you’ve got me on that lying charge. As to hatred… hmm again. Indulge me as I quote myself from earlier today: “But the extended hand is genuine and the proclamation of Christ’s love is real. No one is outside of His concern. No one is unreachable. No one is beyond salvation. No one is unworthy of Jesus’ love.” Maybe it’s because it is late and I’m tired, but I’m not spotting the venom in that. Thanks for stopping by and playing, though. I’m all out of lovely parting gifts, though. My bad.
