I had yet to do a podcast this year, and the post I’ve been working on whenever possible today is taking its own sweet time coming together. What to do? Why, play DJ and spin a half-hour or so worth of tunes! I’ll hopefully get back into the full-blown podcast swing of things soon, but for now a musical interlude will do.
You can listen to it here, or if you have iTunes subscribe to it here. The RSS feed is here. As always, please let me know what you think, and thanks.
Here’s the song list:
- “The End” — The Listening from Transmission #1. A terrific EP released a couple of months ago; can’t wait for the new album to come out later this year.
- “Color Of Your Eyes” — Chris Ryan from Colors. The son of Dawn Wisner-Johnson (Crumbächer, Almost Ugly) and a fine young artist in his own right. The EP is available at Best Buy. Keep an eye on this one; he could well be that rarest of rare — a teen heartthrob with talent.
- “The Answering Machine” — Marillion from Radiation. One of their odder songs which for some reason has been stuck in my head at work the past few days.
- “Speechless” — Crumbächer from Tame The Volcano. If there’s a Broken Records twenty-fifth anniversary concert next year, would you guys and gal pretty please do this one?
- “Lullabies” — Brandi Shearer from Close To Dark. I first heard her when she opened for Tim Finn (Split Enz) at a club in San Francisco last year. The moment her set was done I trampled everyone in the room in a mad dash to the merchandise table in the back to buy this CD. Supporting your local artists (she resides in the City By The Bay) is always a good thing, but when they have a voice this rich and write songs like this it should be required by law.
- “The Working Hour” — Tears For Fears from Songs From The Big Chair. Not one of the hits off of this album which featured “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” and “Head Over Heels” among other chart toppers, but a favorite ever since I first heard it lo those many years ago when mousse and synthesizers ruled the land.
- “Preacher Man” — Lenny LeBlanc from Say A Prayer. Haunting beautiful.
- “I’d Rather Have Jesus” — Sean Doty from Youth Music (or is it unVeiled?). Can’t have a podcast, even an all-music one, without my traditional closing song, now can I?
Enjoy!
