At the risk of incurring the mighty AP’s wrath, a quote or two from its “news” article about Alaska Governor Sarah Palin inking a book deal for her memoirs:
You knew it was coming: Sarah Palin is ready to tell her side, agreeing to publish a memoir with HarperCollins. The book comes out in Spring 2010 – the year she is up for re-election.
Feel the impartiality:
Palin has never written a book and her critics, noting her disjointed CBS interviews with Katie Couric, have questioned whether she could.
Veritably brimming with clear-sighted objectivity, what say? There’s plenty more where that came from; follow the link if you must.
Actually, the subject of this post isn’t pointing out yet another example of MSM hatred and contempt for all things Sarah Palin. There have been so many stories like this it’s impossible to keep tabs on them all, let alone work up a sense of outrage. While you might yell at someone the first time they do something wrong, when it’s the five hundredth time one is best advised not to bother with further remonstrations. Sooner or later the time wasting plus annoyance factors ought to provide sufficient impetus to discontinue any further flying lessons for a pig. Instead, let’s take a look at the dynamic conservative response to such egregious garbage, a symbol of the pernicious mindset that the present administration’s slavish devotion to remaking this country’s economy and societal structure after the fatally flawed European pseudo-benign socialistic model somehow will bring about a secular amillennial kingdom of God provided we all play along and worship the self-appointed messiah…
… oh, wait, that’s right.
There isn’t one.
Actually, that’s not quite true. There are a few voices out there telling the truth in plain, unadorned fashion; truth spoken not to bring attention to the speaker but rather truth itself. Jeff Goldstein at Protein Wisdom gets it:
Long-time readers are familiar with my argument that progressivism leads inexorably to totalitarianism — that, given its kernel assumptions, it can only remain coherent by destroying the primacy of the individual and the notion of personal responsibility.
Most all others? Too busy giving themselves and each other a tongue bath to care. “Ooh, ooh, look at me — I’m on some third-rate podcast… er, Internet ‘radio’ show! I’ve got ten bajillion followers on Twitter! I’ve got great SiteMeter numbers! See? I am somebody! Oh Meghan, Meghan — over here! Look at me! SQUEE!”
Whatever.
A few years, I had a hyperliberal co-worker who was of the firmly held opinion it was not a matter of if, but when the Bush thought police would drag him and his fellow believers off to a concentration camp. Today, you have conservatives ranting the same nonsense with Obama’s name substituted for Bush.
A small problem with such a notion.
They’ve done such a marvelous job marginalizing and trivializing themselves they absolutely do not matter.
Oh, the powers that be might now they’re out there. They simply don’t care. Why should they? These people have emasculated themselves with their self-worship and delusions of influence/importance. A threat? Speaking truth to power? Yeah right. They speak only to each other, a hideous mutual admiration society as trivial and ineffectual as two cheerleaders gossiping are to the school football team’s ability to pass block.
The reason garbage such as the AP goes unchallenged is because our “answer” is Allahpundit. Why go through the effort of replacing one piece of garbage with another? Not worth the trouble.
Right now, with the rare exceptions such as Goldstein, the “answer” isn’t worth anything.
Forgive us, Sarah. You deserve far, far better.
(Thanks to Jeff Goldstein at Protein Wisdom)
