Citizen Soldier
Jul 3rd
Amidst all the furor over Sarah Palin’s resignation as governor of Alaska are the unmistakable strains of why so many in the media and pseudointelligentsia fail utterly to understand her appeal. Or grasp her common sense intellect. Which should come as no surprise, since they are totally devoid of said characteristic. But I digress.
There’s this oft discussed but all too seldom principle of Biblical study known as literalism. Briefly put, it means taking God’s Word at its, or rather His, word. Not everything is symbolism or allegorical. As I’ve oft commented, Jesus was the One who said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Don’t like it, go argue with Him. I’m just repeatin’ what He’s sayin’, is all.
Sarah Palin is a honest woman. When during today’s press conference she said the constant furor around her was a detriment to her doing what is best for her beloved Alaska, why shouldn’t that be taken at face value? Palin has always been a citizen soldier, someone whose political career has been based not on a lust for power (*coughbarackobamacough*) but a sense of duty, the kind that does what is necessary for the betterment of others. So again I ask: why take this for anything other than what she said?
Sarah Palin is a loving woman, one who loves God and her family. She’s also an intelligent woman. She knows the attacks against her and her family will not diminish one iota. That’s not why she’s resigning. Palin is resigning for the reason she stated: she can serve as if not more effectively as a private citizen than as governor. How hard is that to understand?
Is this the beginning of her campaigning for the Presidency in 2012? Maybe. At any rate, she will not disappear. The people, the ones who love her, will support her through anything. Her speeches – you know they’re coming – will play to packed houses. Her book will fly off the shelves. The media will continue to vacillate between scoffing and ignoring her, but she will not be ignored.
The Republican party has been looking for a central figure around whom to rally since Ronald Reagan left the public arena. What they seem to be missing is how much of Reagan’s appeal didn’t stem solely from his political conservatism. It was based on his status as a citizen soldier. He wasn’t a career politician. He served out of a sense of duty to the people. He could communicate effectively with the people. He was one of the people.
Remind you of someone?
Let the puffed-up pundits and politicians have their say. They will anyway. They don’t get it, and they never will. We, the people, do. And we stand alongside Sarah Palin. Proudly.
We support the citizen soldier.
P.S. Speaking of same:
