“How Can You Stand Next To The Truth And Not See It?”

Here we go. Again.

Another ethics complaint against Sarah Palin. This one is so flippin’ ludicrous it goes beyond the pale into the positively translucent. The accusation? She used her position as Governor to raise money…

… for a legal defense fund on her behalf so she could pay the bills incurred by bogus ethics complaints.

Ah, but this one’s even better. If one is to believe the “sources” and “leaked reports,” an investigator named Thomas Daniel, apparently embittered because his parents couldn’t afford a last name, is giving gravitas to the complaint because as Amanda Carpenter reports:

Selected quotations from the report show that investigator Thomas Daniel reasoned that because an ordinary citizen would not be able to raise significant sums for to pay for legal fees, Mrs. Palin shouldn’t be able to do so, either. “Governor Palin is able to generate donations because of the fact that she is a public official and a public figure. Were it not for the fact that she is governor and a national political figure, it is unlikely that many citizens would donate money to her legal defense fund,” Mr. Daniel wrote.

Uh-huh.

Let me put this in context with a simple name substitution:

Selected quotations from the report show that investigator Thomas Daniel reasoned that because an ordinary citizen morning commuter would not be able to raise significant sums for to pay for legal fees gasoline and their car, Mrs. Palin Dale Earnhardt Jr. shouldn’t be able to do so, either. “Governor Palin Dale Junior is able to generate donations get sponsors because of the fact that she he is a public official race car driver and a public figure. Were it not for the fact that she he is governor NASCAR’s most popular driver and a national political sports figure, it is unlikely that many citizens would donate money to her legal defense fund buy t-shirts and diecast replicas of his race car,” Mr. Daniel wrote.

Daniel’s rationale is the saddest sack of stupid imaginable. The legal fund exists solely because of actions taken against Palin due to her status as a public figure. Daniel employs an indefensible double standard: it is acceptable to take legal action against a public figure who otherwise would not be subject or subjected to said actions, yet the public figure cannot use their position as a public figure as part of their defense against said actions regardless of the fact the actions would not be taking place were the public figure not a public figure. Now there’s some genius in action.

Naturally, the haters and half-cocked have jumped on this as today’s dosage of Palin Derangement Syndrome. Of course Allahpundit was first in line and first to whine when called out on his BS. Of course Michelle Malkin can’t be bothered to do anything other than pose for the cameras with new book in hand while counting the cash she earns from people piling on her poor widdle picked on baybee puppy AP at HotAir. If this is leading the conservative cause, we need new leaders.

Thankfully, we have one.

This nonsense drives me nuts. Bono’s right. I know I’ll go crazy if I don’t go crazy tonight.

P.S. Speaking of Bono and U2, loving their video for “I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight”:

[video http://www.diecast-dude.com/gac/u2_ill_go_crazy_if_i_dont_go_crazy_tonight.flv nolink]

She’s a rainbow and she loves the peaceful life
Knows I’ll go crazy if I don’t go crazy tonight
There’s a part of me in the chaos that’s quiet
And there’s a part of you that wants me to riot

Everybody needs to cry or needs to spit
Every sweet tooth needs just a little hit
Every beauty needs to go out with an idiot
How can you stand next to the truth and not see it?

A change of heart comes slow

It’s not a hill, it’s a mountain
As you start out the climb
Do you believe me, or are you doubting
We’re gonna make it all the way to the light
But I know I’ll go crazy if I don’t go crazy tonight

Every generation gets a chance to change the world
Pity the nation that won’t listen to your boys and girls
Cos the sweetest melody is the one we haven’t heard
Is it true that perfect love drives out all fear?
The right to appear ridiculous is something I hold dear
Oh, but a change of heart comes slow

It’s not a hill, it’s a mountain
As you start out the climb
Listen for me, I’ll be shouting
We?re gonna make it all the way to the light
But you now I’ll go crazy if I don’t go crazy tonight

Baby, baby, baby, I know I’m not alone
Baby, baby, baby, I know I’m not alone

It’s not a hill, it’s a mountain
As we start out the climb
Listen for me, I’ll be shouting
Shouting to the darkness, squeeze out sparks of light

You know we’ll go crazy
You know we’ll go crazy
You know we’ll go crazy if we don’t go crazy tonight

Oh oh
Slowly now
Oh oh
