To Have The Music Back

I was feeling rather blue last night. No particular reason. Just the way it was going.

Until I noticed Chuck Girard’s first five records were now available on iTunes.

Mentioning this will be elicit “who?” or a bit of a tear.

Girard was one of the first Christian rock’n'rollers, first with the band Love Song and then as a solo artist. His records were a staple of my listening habits as a new believer, each greeted eagerly. I was never disappointed.

I haven’t listened to them in over thirty years, as they were never made available on CD or download.

Well, now they are.

As I bought them all and listened to each on turn, I noticed how despite the decades I still knew most every song by heart.

I also noticed what I wrote about in God’s Not Dead (And Neither Are We).

Namely, how this wasn’t a nostalgia trip.

Rather, it was sorely needed spiritual refreshment. A reminder of the fundamentals.

I’m glad to have this music back.

It still ministers.

I’m glad.
