Sister Toldjah, one of the better political bloggers, made a comment on Twitter this morning:
Loving the rise of strong female Republican/cons. politicos in American politics ((Sarah) Palin, (Jan) Brewer, (Nikki) Haley, (Susana) Martinez, etc)
To which yours truly replied:
Someone’s got to man up in conservative politics. Might as well be the women. It’s the Margaret Thatcher revolution.
Indulge me as I expand on the latter for a bit, while noting ST corrected an oversight in the aforementioned tweet by listing (Michele) Bachmann and (Marsha) Blackburn. But I digress.
Margaret Thatcher wasn’t nicknamed “the Iron Lady” because she faithfully took One A Day Women’s. When she was Prime Minister, once she made up her mind and set course that was that. She stared down the labor unions that at the time held all of England in their grasp, and when it came to foreign policy… ask Argentina how their little excursion into the Falkland Islands turned out. Thatcher was a true leader; a shining example of courage and conviction.
Perhaps ironically, it is across the Atlantic where her legacy has taken root. We have, in the aforementioned American ladies of politics, women of similar courage and conviction speaking, and when in office acting, with authority. There is no hesitancy, no political or moral equivocation in their adherence to what they believe. They stick to their guns while not stubbornly following blind allegiance to ideology above common sense. Yet they do not shift with the wind, bending to and fro with the vagaries of public opinion or political expediency. They have chosen their course of smaller government and corresponding greater freedom for private enterprise, fused with unyielding insistence on honor in both personal and professional conduct. This is their path, and from it they will not be deterred.
No wonder the political establishment on both sides of the aisle hate their guts.
Yet it is not the only reason.
The unshakable and openly professed faith in Christ of Palin and Bachmann is well known. Consider also these words by Haley:
My faith in Christ has a profound impact on my daily life and I look to Him for guidance with every decision I make. God has blessed my family in so many ways and my faith in the Lord gives me great strength on a daily basis. Being a Christian is not about words, but about living for Christ every day.
Makes the reason behind charges of infidelity currently being leveled against her even clearer, does it not? Few are more hated in this world than those who are both faithful followers of Jesus and honest politicians.
That, and the blown male ego when it’s realized the women are manning up far more spectacularly — and successfully — than the men seem capable of these days.
The Thatcher Revolution is here. Thankfully.
