I don’t watch a lot of network TV; in fact, outside of sporting events I don’t watch a lot of TV period. It’s not any kind of pretentious elitist pseudo-intellectual tripe that fuels my aversion. Rather, it’s having watched so much of it in my younger days that I’ve grown tired of the repeated formulas permeating the idiom. How many cop and/or doctor shows, or situation comedies, can you watch until developing a terminal case of I’ve seen this already-itis?
That said, the fact network television is heavily populated with individuals who take being easy on the eyes to a whole new level cannot be easily dismissed. Hey, I’m a guy. I like looking at pretty women. Yes, that’s as far as it goes; vows before God and man and all. Plus the cold reality of even if I was available, odds are quite high I’d never be in a position to so much as say hello to any of the actresses who are, shall we say, noticed. Should that massive obstacle be surmounted, the next fact is I and they are of quite different tribes. Not exactly a solid foundation for romance, what say?
Anyway, setting aside fantasy let us re-enter the reality of… well, fantasy. A new network show debuted on ABC last night that I may find myself watching despite a tissue paper-thin premise: a brilliant neurosurgeon is in a serious car accident forcing her to give up her practice, so she becomes a medical examiner and for the sake of human interest also needs to work on her people skills. Happens all the time, I am sure.
Anyway, despite this rehash of a backdrop the show does have some interest. Reason? It stars Dana Delany, who I have long found to be gorgeous. And, as an added bonus, the cast includes Jeri Ryan. Winner!
In real life, Ryan is a happily married wife and mother, while Delany is single and decidedly on the opposite end of the abortion battle than I, having played Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger in a made for TV movie and stated publicly her admiration for Sanger. Not that any of this matters. You know; actress vis-à-vis reality and such.
Or does it?
As noted, the chances of Delany and I crossing paths rank somewhere between nonexistent and none whatsoever. Accepted. However, she too is created in God’s image. She is a person of value, valued so highly Jesus died for her.
Celebrity does not change this.
I do not believe it is naive or a waste of time to pray for celebrities, pray that people who know Christ and are equipped to witness to those in the spotlight will come into their lives speaking and living for God, being a testimony to His love. Yes, praying for these people must never take precedence over the people we actually know. This does not mean it should be neglected.
It is my prayer that Delany will one day meet the living God and invite Jesus into her heart and life. She gives every impression of being an intelligent woman. Imagine the possibilities of such a person infused with the Holy Spirit, knowing the full measure of Christ’s love and sharing it with others. Of course I’ll still never meet her. But that’s okay. There will be plenty of time in eternity to make introductions.
I don’t see that imagining as being the nonsensical fluff of a silly fanboy.

I like Dana too….as an actress. I have long disagreed with her politics…but like you said, that’s okay. I understand being a fanboy…or rather a fangirl. I disagree with the politics of 98% of the celebs whose work I enjoy..I’ve gotten used to it.
